The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has made significant updates to the franchise disclosure register following a consultation with franchisors. Effective from March 30, 2026, these changes will alter the form and manner in which franchisors are required to submit information.
Under the Competition and Consumer (Industry Code – Franchising) Regulations 2024, also known as the Franchising Code of Conduct, a franchise disclosure register must be available online and accessible free of charge. This code mandates that most franchisors maintain a profile for each franchise system on the register and publish relevant franchise information.
New franchisors are required to join the register and establish a profile at least 14 days prior to entering into any franchise agreements. The Franchising Code of Conduct specifies that franchisors must provide information for the franchise disclosure register in a format approved by the Chairperson of the ACCC.
