Bol has made commitments to the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) aimed at improving its online platform for both consumers and sellers. These commitments come after a comprehensive investigation by ACM, which raised concerns about the platform's operations.
To address these concerns, bol will enhance the speed of its communication and complaint-handling processes, ensure fair competition among commercial sellers, and provide clearer price indications for products. These changes are designed to make the platform more accessible, user-friendly, and transparent.
Bol's commitments include improving the clarity of general terms and conditions for sellers and simplifying the process for reporting illegal content. For consumers, bol will make contact options more visible beyond the chatbot feature.
Additionally, bol has pledged to ensure fair competition on its platform by adjusting how it prioritizes offerings visible to consumers and by not using data to gain an unfair advantage as a seller. This is expected to enhance the quality of offerings available to consumers.
In terms of pricing, bol will modify how prices are indicated to help consumers make better-informed purchasing decisions, aligning with ACM's guidelines on price indications and comparisons.
The investigation aligns with ACM's strategic goal of fostering a safe and fair digital economy, focusing on fair access to online markets and the protection of online users. ACM plans to declare bol's commitments binding and will cease its investigation once the commitments are finalized.
A draft decision regarding these commitments is available for public review until September 13, 2026, allowing stakeholders to submit their opinions before a final decision is made.
