28.05.2025 | Hungarian competition authority
On May 29, 2025, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) officially became a member of the Hungarian Association of Financial Economic Inspectors (MPGE). During the association's delegate assembly, Rigó Csaba Balázs was elected as one of the vice-presidents. The president of the GVH emphasized the growing importance of state organizations involved in financial and economic oversight in addressing social and economic challenges.
The MPGE was established in 1994 to unify professionals engaged in financial and economic inspection activities. Its mission includes enhancing the development of inspection methods and increasing the prestige of inspection activities through the sharing of professional knowledge and experiences among its members. The association collaborates with various state bodies, including the State Audit Office, the Hungarian National Bank, the National Tax and Customs Administration, the Government Control Office, and the Hungarian State Treasury.
The membership of the MPGE primarily consists of employees from state inspection organizations, with leadership roles typically held by heads of these organizations. The president of the MPGE is traditionally the president of the State Audit Office, while vice-presidents are leaders from partner organizations. The association has seen dynamic growth in membership, nearing 2,500 members, supported by nineteen county organizations and two city organizations in Budapest.
With the recent inclusion of GVH staff, Rigó Csaba Balázs's election as vice-president reflects the expanding role of the GVH in the association. He noted that while the national competition authority is not a traditional oversight body, its regulatory, investigative, and analytical responsibilities significantly impact economic and social processes. The GVH is committed to protecting fair market competition for the benefit of the Hungarian people, and Balázs believes that the professional exchange of experiences within the association will contribute to this goal.
The GVH's activities to protect competition are based on three pillars: enforcing Hungarian competition law and EU competition rules, influencing state decisions in favor of competition, and promoting competition-related knowledge and culture. In addition to its competition oversight work, the GVH also has strong consumer protection powers.
