The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has requested Marks & Spencer (M&S) to review its land agreements following the discovery of non-compliance with the Groceries Market Investigation (Controlled Land) Order 2010. This investigation revealed that 10 of M&S's land agreements were found to restrict competition.
M&S has acknowledged these breaches and is actively working to rectify the issues identified by the CMA. The authority has published an open letter detailing the findings of its investigation and the specific agreements that are in violation.
The non-compliant agreements pertain to M&S stores located in various regions, including Imperial Wharf in London, Kingston upon Thames (noted on three separate occasions), Oatlands in Harrogate, Pontarddulais, Guiseley, Uddingston in Glasgow, Ilkeston, and Ocean Terminal in Leith.
For further details, stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the Groceries Market Investigation (Controlled Land) Order 2010, which outlines the regulations governing land agreements in the grocery sector.
