The Italian competition authority has concluded investigations against three micromobility operators—Bird, Dott, and Lime—resulting in a total fine of €2.675 million. The investigations, initiated in November 2025, focused on the companies' failure to facilitate access to free ride packages for annual subscribers of the local public transport system, Metrebus.

The authority found that the operators implemented inadequate measures and organizational structures, making it difficult for users to activate their free ride packages, leading to long wait times. This hindered the users' ability to benefit from the service, which is intended to complement public transport and promote sustainable mobility.

Additionally, Bird was found to have engaged in unfair commercial practices by arbitrarily deactivating user accounts without prior notice or opportunity for users to contest the decision. These actions significantly impacted consumers by limiting their access to environmentally friendly transportation options.

The fines reflect the authority's commitment to ensuring fair competition and protecting consumer rights in the micromobility sector.
