27.05.2024 | Spanish competition authority

The CNMC in the EU's High-Level Group for the Digital Markets Law will supervise the advancement of artificial intelligence, ensuring fair conditions for businesses and users.

The CNMC is part of the EU's High-Level Group for the Digital Markets Law, focusing on overseeing the development of artificial intelligence (AI) to prevent unfair conditions for businesses and users.

This group aims to ensure coordinated application of the Digital Markets Law to mitigate AI risks, preserve competitiveness, and foster innovation. They have issued a statement and established a dedicated AI working subgroup.

The Digital Markets Law ensures that major online platforms, acting as gatekeepers and utilizing AI systems, do not impose unfair conditions on businesses and users, maintaining the contestability of their basic platform services.

The newly created AI subgroup will monitor AI progress, analyze interactions with regulatory instruments, share knowledge for AI regulation, and develop cooperation means for consistent regulation.

The High-Level Group advises the European Commission on implementing the Digital Markets Law and other sector-specific regulations for gatekeepers. It comprises European regulators in communications, data protection, competition, consumer protection, and audiovisual services.
