The Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) has initiated a public consultation on commitments proposed by Proximus/Fiberklaar and Telenet/Wyre concerning their cooperation in deploying fiber networks in Flanders. This follows an investigation that began on July 26, 2024, focusing on the potential reduction of competition in infrastructure and telecommunications services.

The proposed cooperation aims to accelerate the deployment of fiber networks in medium-density areas, with a target of two million connections by 2028. The BCA has expressed concerns about the impact on competition, particularly regarding access rates and the risk of creating monopolistic conditions in certain areas.

To address these concerns, the companies have submitted commitments to provide fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory access to their networks. The BCA is now seeking feedback from market participants on these commitments, which are available for review on its website. The consultation period will end on November 21, 2025.

The BCA emphasizes the importance of high-performance fiber networks for Belgium's economic competitiveness and aims to ensure that the proposed cooperation does not hinder competition in the telecommunications market.
