The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) has initiated an investigation into Booking.com for potential abuse of dominant position under Art. 102 TFEU. Booking is accused of implementing a strategy that limits Italian hotels' pricing autonomy by offering advantages to hotels in its Preferred Partner Programme in exchange for price commitments and higher commission fees. This alleged conduct may hinder competition in the online hotel intermediation market, impacting other online travel agencies (OTAs), hotels, and consumers. AGCM officials conducted inspections at Booking.com's premises with the assistance of the Italian Financial Police.
