The Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) celebrated its 35th anniversary at a conference in Prague's Liechtenstein Palace. Over the years, it has imposed fines totaling more than ten billion korunas and is recognized as one of the most active competition authorities in Europe, particularly in uncovering cartels in public procurement.

Chairman Petr Mlsna emphasized that the significance of the authority extends beyond mere statistics of administrative proceedings and fines. According to a methodology from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition, the total benefits of competition enforcement for 2025 are estimated to be between 1.5 to 2 billion korunas, indicating a return of 20-30 korunas for every koruna spent on the authority's budget.

Mlsna noted that each completed case has both direct and indirect economic impacts, such as reducing the incidence of cartels due to increased awareness and fear of high penalties. He also highlighted the authority's efforts to engage with the public and academic institutions, forming partnerships with eight universities and five state agencies.

Senate Chairman Miloš Vystrčil and House of Representatives Chairman Tomio Okamura acknowledged the importance of ÚOHS in protecting consumers and maintaining a well-functioning legal state. They praised the authority's independence and effectiveness in competition law enforcement.
