The CNMC has published a report addressing the conditions proposed by the Women's Professional Football League (LPFF) for the marketing of audiovisual rights for four open matches in the Primera División starting from the 2025/26 season.
These matches will be broadcast in Spain and Andorra following an agreement between the LPFF and DAZN, which secured exclusive broadcasting rights in 2022. The CNMC's report emphasizes that the LPFF must adhere strictly to the joint marketing powers granted by Royal Decree-Law 5/2015.
Key recommendations from the CNMC include ensuring that the LPFF does not misrepresent rights it does not own, limiting obligations on the winning bidder to those necessary for marketing, and maintaining a transparent and competitive bidding process.
Additionally, the CNMC advises against structuring lots in a way that could lead to the concentration of rights with a single bidder, although the current marketing is dependent on a prior marketing phase that had multiple lots.
This report is issued under Article 4 of Royal Decree-Law 5/2015, which mandates that audiovisual rights marketers seek prior reports from the CNMC regarding their proposed marketing conditions.
