On December 4, 2025, Rigó Csaba Balázs, the president of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH), was elected as a vice-chair of the OECD Competition Committee during its annual meeting in Paris. This election is seen as a significant recognition for Hungary and its competition policy.
During the meeting, Balázs presented the joint report of the GVH and the OECD's Budapest Regional Education Center (ROK) for 2025, along with the program plan for the upcoming year. He emphasized the importance of fostering international professional relationships and representing Hungarian national interests.
The OECD Competition Committee's winter session took place from December 1 to 5, 2025, where Balázs highlighted the GVH's commitment to promoting fair competition and protecting the interests of the Hungarian people.
Balázs's election to the OECD committee is a notable achievement for Hungary, as he is also a member of the International Competition Network's Steering Group, which includes leaders from various countries' competition authorities.
At the OECD meeting, Balázs discussed the activities of the ROK, which organized five training sessions in 2025, attended by over 300 professionals sharing their latest experiences in competition law and economics.
He stressed the importance of constructive international dialogue, particularly on pressing issues like artificial intelligence and digital markets, and the role of the ROK in strengthening professional discussions in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The Budapest center, established in 2005, aims to support competition law and policy in Eastern, Southeastern, and Central European countries through training and professional programs. It celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025, having organized 164 events and provided a platform for knowledge sharing among approximately 6,600 experts.
