The Spanish competition authority, CNMC, has reported a significant increase in the number of households that are aware of how to file complaints regarding inappropriate audiovisual content for minors. In the second quarter of 2025, 23.1% of households with children knew how to make such complaints, up from 2.6% in the previous year.
The survey revealed that 75% of households with children were aware of parental control tools available to block or filter audiovisual content. However, only a portion of these households actively used these tools, with the highest usage rates observed in video-on-demand services like Netflix and platforms like YouTube.
Concerns about violent or distressing content were particularly high among families with children aged 0 to 6, while older children raised different concerns, such as exposure to dangerous behaviors and substance use. The CNMC emphasizes the importance of protecting minors from harmful content and has established a channel for reporting violations of audiovisual regulations.
