The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is partnering with the European Commission to conduct market investigations into cloud services as part of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This collaboration marks a significant step in addressing potential barriers in the cloud market.

One of the key focuses of the investigation is to identify obstacles that hinder businesses from switching to alternative cloud service providers. The team will also examine interoperability between different cloud services, access to data for business users, and the implications of bundling services.

The DMA aims to protect both businesses and consumers by ensuring fair competition in the digital marketplace. It imposes obligations on major digital platforms, referred to as gatekeepers, and allows the European Commission to take action against violations, including imposing fines.

This joint investigation team is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the European Commission and ACM, highlighting the importance of cooperation in tackling competition issues in the digital economy.
