On May 26, 2025, the Norwegian competition authority approved the merger between Schlumberger Limited and ChampionX Corporation, contingent upon certain conditions. As part of the agreement, ChampionX committed to selling its subsidiary, US Synthetic, to LongRange Capital.
Since the initial approval, the companies have entered into multiple agreements to comply with the authority's requirements. ChampionX has established long-term supply agreements ensuring that oil service companies Baker Hughes and Weatherford have access to products and services from ChampionX's Quartzdyne division. These supply obligations are set to last for five years.
Additionally, ChampionX has signed a global licensing agreement with sensor manufacturer Précis. This agreement aims to facilitate the establishment of a new provider of quartz transducers for permanent well monitoring and directional drilling on the Norwegian continental shelf.
The competition authority has reviewed and approved the signed agreements from the parties involved. With this approval, the authority's case is now concluded, and the implementation ban has been lifted.
