Correos Faces Accounting Changes to Comply with Postal Sector Law

03.09.2024 | Spanish competition authority

Correos, the Spanish postal operator, is required to adjust its accounting practices regarding administrative notifications to align with the Postal Sector Law.

Correos has been incorrectly categorizing administrative notifications in its accounting model, impacting its financial results. These notifications are not considered part of the Universal Postal Service, leading to a recurring issue in its accounting practices.

The company must rectify this error dating back to 2016 and provide corrected financial reports. Additionally, Correos is required to submit technical reports on administrative notifications for future years and make other minor corrections as outlined in the resolution.

Administrative notifications, which accounted for a significant portion of Correos' revenue, are distinct from traditional postal services and must be accounted for separately to comply with the Postal Sector Law.
