The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ian Oppermann as a Commissioner and the reappointment of Anna Brakey for a further five-year term, both effective from December 10, 2025.

Dr. Oppermann brings over 30 years of experience in the information and communication technology sector, with a strong background in data and technology. He has previously served as the Data Standards Chair for Digital ID and the Consumer Data Right (CDR) and was the inaugural Chief Data Scientist for the NSW Government. His expertise is expected to enhance the ACCC's data-driven regulatory approach.

ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb expressed excitement about Dr. Oppermann's appointment, highlighting his role as a thought leader in the digital economy and the anticipated contributions he will make to the agency.

Anna Brakey, who has been reappointed, has significant experience in infrastructure regulation, particularly in energy and telecommunications. She has over 25 years of experience in both public and private sectors and has been instrumental in promoting competition in essential services.

Ms. Brakey will continue to chair the ACCC’s Infrastructure and Communications Committee and the Energy Markets Board, ensuring her expertise remains a vital asset to the agency.

The appointments come as the ACCC bids farewell to Commissioner Peter Crone, who chose not to seek another term. Chair Cass-Gottlieb acknowledged Crone's valuable contributions to the ACCC's work, particularly in the Consumer Data Right and Digital ID programs.
