Canada's Competition Bureau Invites Public Input on Algorithmic Pricing

09.06.2025 | Competition Bureau Canada

The Competition Bureau of Canada is seeking public feedback on the implications of algorithmic pricing across various sectors, aiming to enhance its understanding and regulatory response to this growing trend.

The Competition Bureau of Canada has released a discussion paper titled 'Algorithmic Pricing and Competition' to gather public input on the increasing use of algorithms in pricing strategies across different industries.

This initiative aims to deepen the Bureau's understanding of algorithmic pricing, which is becoming more prevalent in sectors such as hospitality, concert ticketing, and ridesharing. The Bureau is particularly interested in how these algorithms are utilized in Canada, the sources of data for these pricing models, their potential impact on markets and consumers, and the challenges they pose for competition authorities.

The Bureau encourages individuals with experience in algorithmic pricing to share their insights and any related issues they believe should be addressed. Feedback can be submitted through an online form or by mail until July 22, and all submissions will be published unless confidentiality is requested.

Matthew Boswell, the Commissioner of Competition, emphasized the Bureau's commitment to engaging with Canadians on the implications of artificial intelligence in the economy, highlighting the importance of public participation in ensuring a competitive marketplace.
