The Hungarian competition authority, Gazdasági Versenyhivatal (GVH), is organizing a two-day professional training seminar in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) at the Budapest Regional Competition Training Center (ROK). This annual training aims to provide GVH staff with insights into the latest international experiences and developments in competition law.

The seminar, taking place on October 20-21, 2026, will feature presentations from experts from the European Commission, OECD, and various European competition authorities. The event was inaugurated by GVH President Csaba Balázs Rigó.

The training will cover a range of topics, including market research related to artificial intelligence, effective detection of dark patterns, the relationship between labor markets and competition policy, and current issues regarding the burden of proof and standards.

President Rigó emphasized the importance of effective enforcement of competition law for fair and well-functioning markets. He noted that detecting cartels, addressing abuses of market power, and preventing anti-competitive mergers are not just legal tasks but essential for ensuring consumers benefit from lower prices, better quality, and wider choices, ultimately supporting innovation and resilient economies.

During the workshops, GVH staff will engage with various theoretical questions and case studies, including the effective detection of no-poach agreements, dynamic pricing, and consumer protection aspects of personalized algorithms, as well as examining experiences from several cartel cases. The successful organization of the training is supported by experts from the OECD, the European Commission, and various European counterpart authorities.

The ROK was established on February 16, 2005, with the primary goal of providing support in competition law and policy to competition authorities in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, as well as Central Asia, based on the professional background of the two institutions. This is achieved through training and other professional programs.

Globally, there are four such training centers: in Budapest, Peru, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. The Budapest center currently supports 17 beneficiary countries, with a complete list available on the organization's website. The ROK celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025, having organized over 160 events and provided knowledge sharing and experience exchange opportunities for more than 6,000 experts over the past two decades.
