The Competition Bureau of Canada has announced an increase in the merger review filing fee, set to take effect on April 1, 2025, as part of an annual adjustment under the Service Fees Act.

On March 28, 2025, the Competition Bureau of Canada revealed that the filing fee for merger reviews will rise from $86,358.76 to $88,690.45, effective April 1, 2025. This adjustment is mandated by the Service Fees Act, which requires annual changes based on the Consumer Price Index.

The Competition Act stipulates that entities must notify the Bureau of proposed mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions that meet specific thresholds. The Bureau's role is to assess these transactions to determine if they could significantly hinder competition in the market.

The increased filing fee is intended to support the Bureau's mandate in reviewing mergers and to ensure that it meets its service standards. This fee applies to parties filing a pre-merger notification or seeking an Advance Ruling Certificate.
