On 18 November 2025, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) granted interim authorisation to the Uniting Church in Australia National Assembly (UCANA). This authorisation allows UCANA to continue the establishment and operation of a National Insurance Program.
The program aims to enable the various legal entities within the Uniting Church in Australia to collectively negotiate, procure, and maintain insurance and related products. The primary goal is to indemnify and protect the assets, revenues, activities, and potential legal liabilities of UCANA and several Synods, including their boards, agencies, presbyteries, congregations, and other associated groups.
This interim authorisation will also facilitate the ACCC's ongoing assessment of the substantive application AA1000707, which involves revocation and substitution considerations. The ACCC will take into account any issues raised by interested parties through their submissions.
Further details regarding the ACCC's interim decision can be found on the ACCC's public register.
