Fuel Truck Supply Company Owner Sentenced for Antitrust Violations

05.06.2025 | Department of Justice

A former owner of a fuel truck supply company has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for his role in bid rigging and conspiracy to monopolize contracts for wildfire services in Idaho.

The former owner of fuel truck supply companies, Ike Tomlinson, was sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined $20,000 for his involvement in conspiracies to monopolize and rig bids for contracts assisting the U.S. Forest Service in wildfire management. This illegal conduct spanned at least eight years, significantly impacting taxpayer-funded services.

Tomlinson pleaded guilty in May 2024, admitting to colluding with Kris Bird, another fuel truck company owner, to manipulate bids in their favor. Their actions created a façade of competition while they predetermined which company would receive contracts from federal agencies, thereby inflating prices and excluding potential competitors.

Assistant Attorney General Abigail Slater emphasized that such bid rigging, especially involving federal agencies, undermines the competitive process and harms essential services. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are committed to investigating and prosecuting corporate fraud to protect consumers and maintain market integrity.

In addition to the criminal sentence, a civil settlement was reached on July 10, 2024, requiring Tomlinson and related entities to pay $1.1 million to resolve claims of bid rigging and other fraudulent activities. This case was part of a broader initiative by the Justice Department's Procurement Collusion Strike Force, aimed at combating antitrust crimes affecting government procurement.
