The Spanish competition authority, CNMC, has approved the referral of the merger between Siemens Logistics GmbH and Vanderlande Industries B.V. to the European Commission. This decision aligns with a request made by the Portuguese competition authority on April 10.

According to Article 22 of Regulation (EC) No. 139/2004, member states can request the European Commission to examine economic concentrations that do not have a community dimension but may significantly affect competition within their territories.

Member states have 15 working days from Portugal's referral request to decide whether to join the request. Following this period, the European Commission will have 10 working days to determine whether to accept the referral for examination.

This merger specifically impacts the airport baggage management systems market, as Vanderlande Industries, a subsidiary of the Toyota group, seeks to gain exclusive control over Siemens Logistics GmbH.
