The Spanish competition authority, along with key ministries, has agreed to enhance supervision and transparency in energy markets due to international price volatility.

The Spanish competition authority, known as CNMC, has collaborated with the Ministries of Ecological Transition and Economy to bolster oversight and transparency in energy markets. This decision comes in response to significant price volatility in energy, particularly influenced by the ongoing conflict in Iran.

In light of rising energy prices, the CNMC will increase the frequency of its price publications for fuels to a weekly basis, starting next week. This initiative aims to provide consumers with better access to information regarding energy prices and margins.

The CNMC has been actively monitoring the energy markets, including electricity, gas, and fuels, to ensure they operate normally and transparently. The authority is committed to detecting any irregularities and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Additionally, the CNMC has strengthened its communication with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry for Ecological Transition by sharing daily updates and closely coordinating with market operators to monitor the situation and identify any potential anti-competitive practices.
