On June 17 and 18, 2025, the Greek Competition Authority (E.A.) and the Laboratory of Informatics and Computational Economics (E.E.P.Y.O.) at the University of Ioannina will collaborate to host a Datathon aimed at promoting practical data analysis.

The focus of the analysis will be on the extra virgin olive oil market, specifically investigating the dependency of producer prices in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Additionally, the event will empirically analyze the transmission of prices from producers to consumers, comparing prices between supermarkets and for the same brands.

The results of the competition will be published in a working paper by the E.A. and E.E.P.Y.O.

Participation is open to postgraduate students and doctoral candidates from any specialty, with limited spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will take place at the Department of Economics (Central Library of the University of Ioannina).

Winners will be announced on June 19, 2025, following the competition, with a first prize of €1,000 awarded to the top team.

This initiative is part of a Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the E.A. and E.E.P.Y.O., strengthening the connection between competition policy and data analysis.
