Connected Audio Visual Pty Ltd has admitted to engaging in resale price maintenance by requiring retailers to sell products at specified prices. This conduct was addressed through a court enforceable undertaking accepted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
In April 2025, the company communicated with 258 retailers, proposing changes to their distribution agreements that mandated advertising certain products, such as dash cams and subwoofers, at recommended retail prices. Retailers who did not comply faced account suspensions or closures.
Under Australian competition laws, it is illegal for suppliers to restrict retailers from advertising or selling goods below a specific price. The ACCC noted that such practices can lead to higher consumer costs by limiting price competition among retailers.
The undertaking, effective for three years, requires Connected Audio Visual to eliminate the problematic clauses from its agreements and to inform retailers of these changes. Additionally, the company must implement a compliance program to adhere to the Competition and Consumer Act.
The ACCC received a complaint regarding this conduct in April 2025 and emphasized its commitment to enforcing competition laws to protect consumers from inflated prices.
