The Polish competition authority, UOKiK, has taken decisive action against eBilet, an online ticket sales platform, for misleading pricing practices. Following the authority's decision, eBilet is now required to display ticket prices that include mandatory service fees, ensuring transparency for consumers.
eBilet had previously advertised minimum ticket prices, such as 'from 135 PLN', but customers found that the actual purchase price was higher due to an additional service fee. This practice, known as drip pricing, misled consumers about the true cost of tickets, prompting UOKiK to enforce changes in how prices are presented on the platform.
In addition to changing its pricing display, eBilet has been ordered to refund the service fees to customers who filed complaints. UOKiK's President, Tomasz Chróstny, emphasized the importance of clear and accurate pricing information as a standard in online services.
Furthermore, UOKiK found that eBilet had incorrectly informed consumers about an extended refund period of up to 180 days for tickets to events canceled or postponed due to pandemic restrictions. This claim was based on pandemic legislation that did not apply to ticket sales, leading to a fine of over 1.3 million PLN for the company.
Both decisions against eBilet are not yet final, and the company is expected to comply with the new regulations to avoid further penalties.
