The Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) has granted approval for Tymeprax to acquire a 50% ownership stake in the Mafra media group. The remaining half will continue to be held by the current owner, Kaprain, allowing both companies to jointly control Mafra and its subsidiaries after the transaction is completed.

This merger primarily involves sectors such as the publication of periodic and non-periodic press, operation of digital media, television and radio broadcasting, and the sale of advertising space in these media outlets.

Mafra is known for publishing newspapers like MF Dnes and Metro, as well as various magazines. It also operates news portals such as iDnes and Lidovky.cz, and includes music television stations like Óčko and Rádio Impuls.

Tymeprax is a newly established company created specifically to acquire the 50% stake in Mafra, ultimately owned by entrepreneur Pavel Tykač, who is involved in various industries.

Kaprain operates in finance, real estate, industry, and sports, owning FK Pardubice and HC Sparta Praha, along with sports facilities and entertainment and retail centers.

The authority concluded that the merger would not significantly disrupt competition, leading to its approval of the transaction.
