Tina Søreide Steps Down as Director of Norwegian Competition Authority

Tina Søreide will leave her position as the head of the Norwegian Competition Authority on January 31, 2025, after three years of leadership.


Tina Søreide has announced her departure from the Norwegian Competition Authority (Konkurransetilsynet) effective January 31, 2025, after three years in the role. During her tenure, she has expressed pride in the achievements made, particularly in streamlining investigations and resolving complex cases.

Following her departure, Søreide will take on the role of special advisor at the Ministry of Trade and Fisheries (Nærings- og Fiskeridepartementet), where she will focus on researching conditions for effective regulatory authorities and how they can enhance enforcement in the business sector. Part of her research will be conducted at Yale University in the United States, in collaboration with the Norwegian School of Economics (Norges Handelshøyskole).

After her time as a special advisor, Søreide plans to return to her position as a professor at the Norwegian School of Economics. Gjermund Nese will serve as the acting director of the competition authority starting February 1, 2025. The authority has wished Søreide well in her new endeavors.
