Claus Thustrup Kreiner has been appointed as a member of the Danish Competition Council, a key body responsible for overseeing competition law and merger cases in Denmark. His appointment was made by Business Minister Morten Bødskov, filling the position left by David Dreyer Lassen, who has taken on the role of rector at the University of Copenhagen.

The Competition Council consists of seven members with expertise in competition law, economic competition, practical business management, and consumer relations. Their primary responsibilities include making decisions on significant cases of competition law violations and major merger cases.

Claus Thustrup Kreiner has been a professor of economics at the University of Copenhagen since 2005, with a diverse research profile that includes public economics, regulatory and tax policy, industrial economics, inequality, consumer behavior, and labor market economics. He currently leads the Center for Economic Behavior and Inequality, focusing on behavioral economics and inequality.

In addition to his academic work, Kreiner has held various advisory roles, including membership in the Economic Council's leadership from 2010 to 2014, and has chaired expert groups on employment initiatives and green tax reform.
