The GVH initiated proceedings against ALDI Hungary Bt. for allegedly engaging in unfair commercial practices concerning Hungarian-origin products in their refrigerators.
The competition authority observed that ALDI likely did not establish its internal procedures related to commercial communication with the required professional care, as indicated by refrigerators labeled with phrases like '100% fresh and Hungarian meat in our constant selection' potentially not exclusively containing Hungarian products.
The investigation aims to clarify the facts and prove the alleged violation, with a three-month initial period extendable twice by up to two months each.
Businesses are reminded to substantiate claims in their communication to consumers, as product characteristics such as origin and quality can significantly influence consumer decisions.
