The CMA has initiated a Phase 1 investigation into the joint venture agreement between Vodafone UK and Three UK, which aims to combine their telecommunications operations. The investigation will assess whether the merger would lead to a substantial lessening of competition in the UK telecommunications market. The CMA has 40 working days to complete the investigation and determine if a Phase 2 investigation is necessary. The CMA's remit is to assess the impact on competition and cannot consider other effects such as access to personal data. The merger is owned by Vodafone Group Plc and CK Hutchison Holdings Limited.
