The Polish competition authority, UOKiK, fined PayPal Europe over 106 million PLN for employing unfair contract terms, including a broad range of prohibited actions and severe sanctions for users who breach the terms.
After an investigation, UOKiK found that PayPal's user agreement contained clauses deemed unfair, such as vague provisions on prohibited actions and potential sanctions, resulting in a fine of 106.6 million PLN.
UOKiK's President, Tomasz Chróstny, highlighted concerns over PayPal's arbitrary decision-making, where users could face multiple penalties, account closures, and service denials based on unclear and broad contractual terms.
