The European Commission is investigating whether Delivery Hero and Glovo engaged in anticompetitive behavior in the online food delivery sector in the European Economic Area.

22.07.2024 | European Commission

The European Commission has launched a formal antitrust investigation into Delivery Hero and Glovo to determine if they participated in a cartel in the online food delivery sector in the European Economic Area (EEA). Delivery Hero initially held a minority share in Glovo before acquiring sole control in July 2022.

The Commission is concerned that prior to the acquisition, the companies may have divided geographic markets, shared sensitive information, and agreed not to poach each other's employees. These actions, if proven, could violate EU competition rules prohibiting cartels and restrictive business practices.

The investigation aims to ensure fair competition in the online food delivery and groceries sector, prevent hidden market consolidation, and promote a competitive labor market where employers do not collude to limit opportunities for workers.
