The European Commission has decided that X's online social networking service does not meet the criteria to be designated as a gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act.

15.10.2024 | European Commission DMA Unit

The European Commission has concluded its in-depth market investigation into X's online social networking service, following X's notification as a potential gatekeeper. X provided arguments explaining why it should not be considered a key gateway between businesses and consumers, despite meeting the quantitative thresholds of the DMA.

After assessing all arguments and consulting stakeholders and the Digital Markets Advisory Committee, the Commission determined that X's online social networking service does not act as a gatekeeper, as it is not a significant channel for business users to reach end users.

The Commission will continue to monitor the market developments concerning X's online social networking service for any significant changes that may impact its gatekeeper status.

The non-confidential version of the Commission's decision will be made available on the DMA website for public access.
