Belgian Competition Authority Greenlights Blum Group's Acquisition of Van Hoecke Group

27.05.2024 | Belgian competition authority

The Belgian Competition Authority has approved the acquisition deal between the Blum Group and the Van Hoecke Group, both active in the furniture industry.

The Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) has given the green light to the acquisition of the Van Hoecke Group by the Blum Group. The deal involves the Blum Group's subsidiary, Julius Blum GmbH, gaining sole control over Van Hoecke NV, Halux NV, and Van Hoecke BV.

Both companies operate in the furniture industry, specifically in the production and distribution of furniture hinges and drawer systems. The concentration was notified on May 6, 2024, with a request for the application of a simplified procedure.

The Blum Group focuses on metal hinges and drawer systems, while the Van Hoecke Group is involved in distributing Blum Group's products in the Benelux region and producing its wooden drawer systems.

The BCA found that the parties' activities overlap in the distribution of furniture hinges and the production and distribution of drawer systems, with a European scope. The concentration also involves vertical relationships between the parties' activities in these components.

The BCA determined that the conditions for the simplified procedure were met and that there were no objections to the notified concentration.
