The CNMC has launched a sanctioning procedure against Repsol for allegedly abusing its dominant position in the wholesale distribution market of automotive fuels in Spain. The investigation stems from complaints filed by the National Association of Automatic Service Stations (AESAE) and the Association of Independent Hydrocarbon Retailers. Repsol is accused of offering additional fuel discounts to customers at its own service stations while increasing the prices charged to independent competitors for purchasing fuel in the wholesale market. These practices are believed to have harmed independent service stations and limited competition in the retail distribution sector. The investigation will be conducted under the provisions of the Spanish Competition Defense Act and Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
